Father's Day

Yesterday we celebrated a wonderful dad who is loved so very much.

We are so thankful for this wonderful person in our lives who can be so silly and fun....

is so strong and always around for a pick me up if his girls are hot and tired,

is always there for support, encouragement and most importantly just to spend time with his family...

Not to mention he can truly fix or build just about anything that our hearts desire...

Including a "doghouse" (really more of a playhouse) that Hannah and Lily requested he build over his Father's Day weekend. No we don't have a dog.  Yes we do have kids with really big imaginations who sometimes pretend to be dogs :).  I think he finds these faces irresistible...

So irresistible that he gave up his Father's Day weekend relaxing and "him" time for his daughters.

Hannah talked nonstop about this "doghouse" for the three days leading up to the weekend becoming more and more detailed with her plans.  It was to the point where Matt went to the bathroom and opened the door to come out and Hannah was standing there waiting to tell him more about her building instructions.  I am sure Matt had a million other things he could have accomplished over the weekend but he mulled Hannah's plans over, ask her a few questions and agreed that this would be his weekend project.

Matt talked her into using canvas instead of cardboard and while this is not supposed to be a permanent fixture at our house it will be fun while it lasts.  It took most of the weekend (he was building two...one for Hannah and one for Lily) and they are not completely finished but there were some happy "puppies" at the end of the day yesterday.

These girls are so lucky to have such a good daddy...kind, loving, patient and creative.  What a blessing to us all!!

Weekend

This weekend was quite full, as they alway seem to be, and thoroughly enjoyed by all.  A bike ride and trip to the park were planned by Hannah and Lily for Saturday but first was a trip to the farmer's market to stock up on some groceries for the week.  We went with peaches and strawberries particularly on our mind because jam making was top on the weekend agenda.  We came home with oh so much more...corn for chowder, tomatoes and red candy onions for a salad, beef for dinner later in the week, oh and I can't forget that the peaches were also used for a peach and apple salsa that was so good on top of a black bean burrito.

The strawberries smelled so good when we got home that we had to immediately have a taste.  They were candy sweet and I was not sure we were ever going to stop Lily, who typically refuses store bought strawberries, from eating them.

Sunday was pretty rainy so when we saw a break in the clouds we took umbrellas outside to check on the garden.  The girls saw this as an opportunity to play in the puddles that were all around.  Both had a little doll in their hand and before I knew it the dolls were stripped of their clothes, Hannah and Lily's shoes were off and they were all playing in the "watering hole" as Hannah described it.  Thankfully I had taken my camera outside with me to take a few pictures of the garden. I had so much fun watching their giant imaginations at work as they played.

As I am writing this post I am realizing that days like these are exactly why I love summer.  Wishing you a great start to your week!
